Relationship, Sex and Health Education

Today’s children and young people are growing up in an increasingly complex world and living their lives seamlessly including online. This presents many positive and exciting opportunities, but also challenges and risks. In this environment, children are young people need to know how to be safe and healthy, and how to manage their academic, personal and social lives in a positive way.

All schools will be required to teach these subjects and have regard to the statutory guidance from September 2020. Lessons focus on keeping children safe; help prepare children for the world in which they are growing up, including its laws in relation to relationships, sex and health; and help foster respect for others and for difference. The content is age and developmentally appropriate for children.

At Littletown our health education programme includes a programme of sex education, which has been drawn up in accordance with the PSHE association guidelines and has been approved by the governors.

Please note, we teach core theme 2: Relationships, in the Summer Term and core theme 3: Living in the wider world, in the Spring Term.
